Goal Setting and 2013

Welcome to 2013 everyone!

As we spend today reflecting on the previous year and starting this new year, many people have got started on setting goals or resolutions.

New years day is one of my favorite days of the year because their is always a feeling of a fresh start. New commitments are honored, routines are put into place, and we spend a little more time feeling grateful for change.

Last year, my goals were very reachable and I’m proud to realize that I accomplished all of them and many more than I could have even dreamed up.

The thing about a year, is that in 12 months you life can take a lot of different directions. Interests can change, you can meet new friends… and ultimately, your life is shaped everyday with experiences that you had not prepared for when setting your goals.

So this year I took a new approach. Feeling based goals.

5 core desired feelings (as explained by Danielle Laporte here)

Accompanied by daily actions that bring me closer to my goals everyday.

Step one:

Find the feelings in your life that you desire most. Joy, Passion, Securtiy, Love, Connection, Significance. What feelings do you crave?

Step two:

Narrow your list down to the five most important feelings for you.

Step three:

Write these on a sticky note and keep it somewhere you see it often, Make changes if you find deeper feelings.

Step Four:

Set your goals daily, and monthly instead of yearly according to these feelings. If a goal does not meet your most disered core feelings… then maybe you need to dig deeper into why you have this goal, and what purpose it serves for you!

Have a great first day of 2013!!
